Spatial Reasoning with Integrated Qualitative-Metric Fuzzy Constraint Networks

چکیده

Qualitative Spatial Reasoning can be greatly improved if metric information can be represented and reasoning can be performed on it; moreover, modelling vagueness and uncertainty in both qualitative and metric relations allows reasoning in a more flexible way about data coming from real world. In this paper Rectangle Algebra is integrated with a bi-dimensional Point Algebra by defining a set of 25 Point-Region relations, in this way a Spatial Qualitative Algebra (SQA) among point and regions is obtained. Besides, SQA is extended to deal with uncertain data by means of the Fuzzy Sets Theory. Fuzzy metric information is represented using pyramidal possibility distributions, and transformation functions that allow passing from qualitative to metric information and vice versa are provided.

On Fuzzy Temporal Constraint Networks Llu S Vila

Temporal Constraint Networks are a well-deened, natural and eecient formalism for representing temporal knowledge based on metric temporal constraints. They support the representation of both metric and some qualitative temporal relations and are provided with eecient algorithms based on CSP techniques. Recently, a generalization based on fuzzy sets has been proposed in order to cope with vague...

Efficient Spatial Reasoning with Rectangular Cardinal Relations and Metric Constraints

In many real-world applications of knowledge representation and reasoning formalisms, one needs to cope with a number of spatial aspects in an integrated and efficient way. In this paper, we focus our attention on the so-called Rectangular Cardinal Direction calculus for qualitative spatial reasoning on cardinal relations between rectangles whose sides are parallel to the axes of a fixed refere...

Field-based Fuzzy Spatial Reasoning Model for Geographical Information Systems: Case of Constraint Satisfaction Problem

Humans’ representation in nature language about geographic phenomena is usually qualitative rather than quantitative. Qualitative spatial reasoning provides an approach which is considered to be closer to the representation. Commercial GIS software are confronted with a challenge that the software should be equipped with artificial intelligent functions like qualitative spatial reasoning for mo...

Integrating Metric and Qualitative Temporal Reasoning

Research in Artiicial Intelligence on constraint-based representations for temporal reasoning has largely concentrated on two kinds of formalisms: systems of simple linear inequalities to encode metric relations between time points, and systems of binary constraints in Allen's temporal calculus to encode qualitative relations between time intervals. Each formalism has certain advantages. Linear...

Including Qualitative Spatial Knowledge in the Sense-Plan-Act Loop

In this paper we present ongoing work on integrating qualitative and metric spatial reasoning into planning for robots. We propose a knowledge representation and reasoning technique, grounded on well-established constraint-based spatial calculi, for combining qualitative and metric knowledge and obtaining plans expressed in actionable metric terms.
